  • Michelle Shocked Releases Silent Album Called 'Inaudible Women'

L.A. funk band Vulfpeck recently made headlines with its completely silent album Sleepify, which earned the band $20,000 from Spotify after they asked fans to stream it on repeat as they slept. Now another artist has pulled a similar silent stunt. Controversial singer-songwriter Michelle Shocked has released an album titled Inaudible Women, which as its title implies, is completely inaudible.

  • Damon Albarn: Blur's New Album May Never Come Out

Being one of the busiest people working in music, Damon Albarn was bound to drop the ball on at least one of his projects. Unfortunately, he seems to have dropped the ball on his most anticipated project of all. In a new interview with NME, Albarn admits that the new album he started recording with Blur last year may never actually be finished, taking most of the blame for it himself and his inability to write enough lyrics in time.

  • Kanye West Wins 'Coinye' Trademark Infringement Lawsuit

You may remember that back in January, a new form of digital currency was launched called "Coinye West," which was named, of course, for rapper Kanye West, and featured a cartoon representation of his likeness. Though one would assume that having his name and face plastered on as many products as possible would be Yeezy's ultimate life goal, the "Bound 2" rapper actually wasn't too thrilled about it, so much so that he filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit against the company pretty much immediately. Radio.com now reports that on July 22, the lawsuit had been settled in West's favor by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Earlier this week, legendary Queens rapper Nas offered some words of encouragement to Kendrick Lamar, concerning Lamar's impending follow-up to his instant classic debut good kid, m.A.A.d city from 2012. As Nas knows all too well, plenty of rappers have failed to deliver a satisfying follow-up to a widely praised debut album. However, these six rappers and rap groups managed to release albums that were just as good, if not better, than their debuts.
  • 5 Ways Weezer Could Actually Get 'Back To The Shack'

On Monday, Weezer shared its new single "Back To The Shack," a riffy power pop tune that seemed to promise a return to the band's mid-90's glory days. Though the song isn't the worst thing Weezer's done in the last ten years, it still isn't anywhere close to the band's best material, and its desperate nostalgia is largely to blame. If Weezer truly wanted to find its groove again, it shouldn't be writing a stupid song about it. Instead, the band should be taking these steps...
  • Jack White Covered Jimi Hendrix, Performed Longest Show Of Career Last Night [LISTEN]

Just like the vinyl edition of his most recent album Lazaretto was gimmicky in an astonishing number of ways, Jack White's recent shows seem to be newsworthy for a number of reasons as well. In addition to pulling a fan on stage to play guitar with him on the White Stripes classic "Seven Nation Army," White's show at the Chicago Theatre last night was also the longest of his career, clocking in at a foot-blistering three hours with a 33-song set list, which you can read below. Among these songs were covers by Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix, and as Consequence of Sound points out, the show also marked White's first performance of the White Stripes' "Blue Orchid" in seven years.
  • Nas On Kendrick Lamar's Next Album: 'There's No Way He Can Mess It Up'

If there's any rapper in the business who has unequivocally faced the challenge of following up a classic debut, it's Nas, whose 1994 debut Illmatic is often considered to be the greatest rap album ever made (and I agree). However, a similar pressure is mounting up against Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, whose 2012 debut good kid, m.A.A.d city was hailed as the greatest rap debut since -you guessed it- Illmatic. In a recent interview with Complex, Nas offers some words of encouragement to Lamar.
