  • Joy Division & New Order's Bernard Sumner To Release Autobiography In September

    Joy Division and New Order guitarist Bernard Sumner will be releasing an autobiography on September 25, Pitchfork reports. The book is titled Chapter and Verse (New Order, Joy Division, And Me) and is being published by Bantam Press. As the title indicates, the book will likely be a look back on Sumner's time with influential post-punk band Joy Division and the equally influential synth-pop band New Order, formed after the tragic suicide of Joy Division vocalist Ian Curtis in 1980. Sumner has also been a member of the bands Electronic, with Johnny Marr of the Smiths, and Bad Lieutenant, with his New Order bandmate Phil Cunningham.
  • Burzum's Varg Vikernes Found Guilty Of Inciting Racial Hatred

    The Guardian reports that infamous black metal musician Varg Vikernes has been found guilty of inciting racial hatred by a French court. Vikernes received a six-month suspended sentence and a fine of €8,000, or roughly $11,000, for writing blog posts attacking Muslims and Jews between March and June 2013. Vikernes was not present for the proceedings, which took place in Paris on Tuesday.

    Consequence of Sound reports that alternative rock band The Breeders have announced a brief string of tour dates for this September. This tour will be the Breeders' first since last year's world tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band's classic Last Splash LP. The tour begins on September 2nd in St. Louis and ends on September 18th in Los Angeles, where the band will be playing with Neutral Milk Hotel and former member Carrie Bradley.

    Stereogum reports that today, Bruce Springsteen shared his directorial debut Hunter of Invisible Game through his website (click here to watch it). The 10-minute clip is part short film and part music video for the song "Hunter of Invisible Game" from Springsteen's latest album, High Hopes. The plot of the film seems to involve Springsteen trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, or maybe it's just New Jersey in 2014 (I live there, so I'm allowed to make that joke). The actual music video portion begins about halfway through.

    Cleveland indie rock band Cloud Nothings has shared the video for its song "Psychic Trauma," which you can watch below.     On Thursday, the director and two of the producers of the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider were indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass after an on-set train accident killed one crew member and injured six others back in February. Director Randall Miller, producer Jody Savin, and executive producer Jay Sedrish were all indicted by a Georgia grand jury and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, Rolling Stone reports.
