Soundcloud vs Sony: Madeon Slams Imminent Takedown of Account
The war between Soundcloud and the second largest label in the world, Sony, is getting uglier by the day. It was reported earlier this month that negotiations between the two parties had broken down over "lack of monetization opportunities" and Sony was pulling down music from some of its major artists like Passion Pit, Adele and Miguel. Now the takedowns are spreading to their smaller artists and some are not happy at all. One artist who is about to get his music removed from Soundcloud is French electronic producer, Madeon, and he is not happy at all about the situation. -
'We Are Your Friends' Trailer: Zac Efron, Emily Ratajkowski Star in EDM Movie
EDM is coming to the big screen in a big way. Roles have been given to actors who have played DJs in the past, but there haven't been any major Hollywood films with premiere actors involved. That is what has happened with a Warner Bros. Pictures and Studiocanal film titled "We Are Your Friends," which is set to star Zac Efron, model turned actor Emily Ratajkowski and Wes Bentley ("Interstellar," "The Hunger Games"). The plot focuses on a 23-year-old aspiring DJ, Zac Efron, who spends his days and nights scheming with his friends to try and become a superstar DJ. There has been buzz over the past year during filming, while Efron got DJ lessons from Alesso and spent time with Martin Garrix getting into the role. Now the full 3:15 trailer has been released and it tells nearly the whole story of the film. -
Spotify, Starbucks Partner Turning Baristas Into Coffee Shop DJs
Even with the recent push back against streaming services over their per-stream royalty payments, their impact on the music industry continues to grow at a remarkable rate. The largest company of them all, Spotify, announced another massive corporate partnership today that will bring the service to a whole new swath of customers. According to a news release today, Spotify has partnered with coffee store giant, Starbucks, where it will be integrated into the Seattle-based company's 7,000 United States stores and 10M member My Starbucks Loyalty Program. The partnership will allow baristas to create playlists that will then be played at their local store. -
Jack Ü Share Hangout Festival 2015 Live Set Replacing Sam Smith
On Friday, Hangout Festival 2015 was treated to an extra dose of Skrillex and Diplo as the pair were tabbed to perform at the three-day festival as Jack Ü, replacing a speechless Sam Smith as he recovers from his vocal chord surgery. They were both scheduled to perform on Saturday - Skrillex by himself and then Diplo with Major Lazer. The festival was broadcasted live online and some of the sets have surfaced so far. -
Ratatat Announce New Album 'Magnifique' -- July Release Date Set
After nearly five years of being dormant, experimental electronic duo Ratatat are back in 2015 with some brand new music and shows. After premiering their new track "Cream On Chrome" at Coachella the NYC duo of Evan Mast and Mike Stroud have announced their first album in five year, Magnifique. The 14-track album will be released on July 17 via their label home XL Recordings. It will see the band return "to their core guitar-driven sound" according to a press release (via Consequence of Sound). It will also include the band's first-cover, of the song "I Will Return" by Springwater. -
Young Thug Releases 'That's All' After Leaks With Rich Homie Quan
After a rash of leaks that week that put nearly one hundred Rich Gang songs on the web from Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan and others, Thugger has unveiled a new track on his own terms this time titled "That's All." Produced by Atlanta producer, Goose, who works frequently with the "Stoner" rapper, he crafts an instrumental fit for the south and pace of the tune with plenty of rolling snares and 808s. Thugger goes in at a frenetic pace, discussing in a rather sexual manner an open relationship with some unknown female. -

Los Angeles-based electronic music group The Glitch Mob have released a short documentary on their new live set up, named "The Blade." The concept for it was conceived after the trio of Ooah, Boreta and ediT finished writing their sophomore artist album Love Death Immortality and were looking for a new way to present it to the world. They have always done things differently -- combining live elements with state-of-the-art technology and this new live set up is no different. -
Steve Aoki Sued For Allegedly Breaking Woman's Neck At Hard Rock Hotel San Diego
Steve Aoki may be envisioning an ideal "Neon Future," but it is his past that is coming back to haunt him. He is about to undergo surgery for nearly catastrophic vocal chord damage from years of overworking them, however there is something more serious coming on the horizon. Aoki is being sued over an alleged incident that occurred three years ago at one of his shows three years ago in San Diego at the Hard Rock Hotel. A young woman, Brittany Hickman is suing Aoki claiming that he broke her neck at the show. -

Every year for the past 11 years, Tiësto has released some of the most celebrated compilation albums in dance music. He first started with his celebrated In Search of Sunrise compilations on Black Hole Recordings in 2005, but with his departure from the label and trance in 2010, the "Wasted" DJ decided to launch a new series the following year titled Clublife. Each edition is inspired by various cities around the world, mostly in the United States that love dance music. Chinx Drugz Dead: Meek Mill, Travi$ Scott, Strap Release Tribute Song 'Miss My Dawgs' [LISTEN]
Yesterday, the hip-hop and music community at large woke up to the shocking and tragic news that up-and-coming New York rapper Chinx Drugz, real name Lionel Pickens, had been shot and killed in a drive-by-shooting. He had been shot multiple times in hit car in Queens at around 4 a.m. after finishing up a performance at Club Red Wolf in Brooklyn at around 2:30 a.m. Condolences and messages have been flying in from all across hip-hop on social media as artists try to cope with the news that one of their own was taken from them too soon. One of those who was most affected by the news was Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, who put up an Instagram picture of him, Chinx and French Montana, the mentor for Pickens, with a long, personal noted attached. In addition to that pic, Meek Mill has also recorded and released a powerful tribute track to Chinx titled "Miss My Dawgs" featuring Travi$ Scott and Strap. -

Hangout Festival 2015 just wrapped up its third day last night and with a festival that included the likes of Foo Fighters, Zac Brown Band, Major Lazer, Beck and My Morning Jacket, there were surely going to be plenty of highlights for fans. Much of the festival was live streamed online and some of the sets were captured by individuals on the internet. One of the sets came from American bass don, Skrillex, which has hit the web in full and opens with his unreleased remix of GTA's recent track "Red Lips." -
BBMAs 2015: Kanye West Performs Fiery 'All Day,' 'Black Skinhead' & Censors Disapprove
The Billboard Music Awards 2015 invited some of the biggest names in pop music today to perform over their three hour broadcast including Imagine Dragons, Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj and many more. The event culminated in Taylor Swift unsurprisingly winning biggest artist of the year and then a performance from Kanye West. Yeezy performed his recent single "All Day" and then the Yeezus track "Black Skinhead," but there was a catch. ABC decided to censor about half of Kanye's performance, rendering the broadcast of his fiery two-song set almost useless. -

After other dup performances like Chris Brown and Pitbull, Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy and Faith Hill and Little Big Town, the BBMAs 2015 did not hold back two of the biggest pop stars in the world performing their hit single "Hey Mama." Fifth Harmony introduced Nicki Minaj and David Guetta as Nicki came out to perform one track on her own, before heading out to a different section of the stage to join the French DJ. -

The Billboard Music Awards 2015 have been a showcase of star power, featuring performances from the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Faith Hill, Fall Out Boy and much more. Thus far, One Direction and Taylor Swift have been the stars of the show, taking home multiple awards at the halfway point, surely with more to go. The big-name BBMAs performances and collaborations continue with Pitbull and Chris Brown taking the stage. -
BBMAs 2015: Mariah Carey Performs 'Vision Of Love,' 'Infinity' to Celebrate Vegas Residency
The first hour of the show featured the likes of Wiz Khalifa, John Legend and Van Halen. They brought out another legend that has graced the charts countless times, Mariah Carey, who is in the midst of an attempted career revival with new music and Las Vegas residency. Idina Menzel opened for Carey with a flattering introduction that featured her various chart accomplishments including 18 top 100 hits, the longest number one track and much more. However, the "Without You" singer needed no introduction and launched into medley of songs old and new, performing "Vision Of Love" with "Infinity." -

After the world premiere of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" video featuring the two new verses from Kendrick Lamar, the "Blank Space" singer introduced "one of the greatest rock bands in the world, Van Halen." The legendary rock group with David Lee Roth in tow launched into a rowdy rendition of their classic track, "Panama." The Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) are generally all about chart-topping artists like Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West, but they decided to open up the show with an act who once graced the top of charts decades ago, but remain a band with relevance today. -
Deadmau5 Previews Grabbitz Vocal Collaboration of 'Silent Picture'
Deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, is known for his banter on social media. Whether it is putting other artists on blast or having friendly conversations with his fans, the "Strobe" producer can be reached relatively easily on Twitter. In the past, Zimmerman has also used social media to find promising new talent. Recently, he reached out to Monstercat Records signee Grabbitz about a vocal edit that the Buffalo, New York native made for deadmau5's 'while 1<2' track, "Silent Picture." The collaboration started soon after and deadmau5 has previewed what the pair have been working on over the past few weeks. -

The hip-hop community is mourning the death of one of its one today after rapper Chinx Drugz, real name Lionel Pickens, 31, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Queens early Sunday, according to police. Pickens was struck multiple times while his passenger was struck twice in the Porsche Chinx was driving at around 4 a.m. At least seven bullets pierced the front and driver-side windows according to reports. News has spread quickly today of the passing of the rapper signed to French Montana's Coke Boys imprint and support has poured from artists like Wiz Khalifa, Lil Durk, Meek Mill and Diddy. -
Northside Festival 2015 Lineup: Run The Jewels, Best Coast, Vince Staples
Most music fans are familiar with the major music festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza that showcase the biggest bands in the world. However, there are plenty of smaller local festival that showcase mid-level, up-and-coming and local acts that will be the next wave of headliners at those major, big-ticket festivals. New York City has countless music events happening every weekend, notably during the summer, and in three weeks, Northside Festival will be taking over Brooklyn with a combination of speakers, films and music. The festival just announced the majority of the artists who will be performing this year including Best Coast, Run The Jewels, Zola Jesus and Vince Staples. -
Kendrick Lamar, Bilal Perform New Song 'Money Over Love'
Kendrick Lamar has been living large since the release of his critically acclaimed album, 'To Pimp A Butterfly.' Despite not going on a major tour as of yet, he has still been able to keep the album relevant in the frenetic 24-hour news cycle. On Friday night at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles, K.Dot. performed a private show at the Linear Labs Launch party with a full backing band, Bilal and Adrian Younge. The "King Kunta" rapper used the opportunity to show off some new music. He performed a new song with TPAB collaborator Bilal, who was on hand that night, titled "Money Over Love." There aren't many details about the collab, but from what we can hear, it has the same funky sound found on "Institutionalized" with a similar social consciousness found in their original collab. -
Soulja Boy Releases 'Swag The Mixtape' Featuring Chief Keef, Migos
It's been a long time since the late 2000s when Soulja Boy was putting out hit records like "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," Turn My Swag On" and "Kiss Me Through the Phone." Since the release of his third studio album, 'The DeAndre Way' in 2010, Soulja has been dropping a steady flow of mixtapes and has expanded his business and musical interests into a little EDM and fashion. However, nothing has really stuck. Earlier this year, he released his fourth studio album, 'Loyalty,' on Universal to mixed reviews and now has another piece of work to show in 2015. The "Hurricane" rapper just released his new project, 'Swag The Mixtape,' which has features from the likes of Migos, Chief Keef, Calico Jonez, Johnny Cinco and more. -

The mysterious ZHU took to the airwaves last night for his first ever radio mix. The "Faded" DJ did a special after hours mix for Pete Tong on BBC Radio One, which features some brand new unreleased material. The notoriously reclusive DJ has only released a handful of tracks, which include the Grammy-nominated single, "Faded," and his 'Nightday EP,' as well as a few other bootlegs and remixes that were done for the likes of Outkast and Lana Del Ray. Fans now have a chance to hear some new music from Stephen Zhu, including two unreleased originals. -
'Entourage' Movie Soundtrack: Diplo, Tame Impala, Pharrell Featured
One of the summer's most anticipated movies, Entourage, is just two weeks away from opening night and fans of the show (myself being one) can hardly wait. The HBO series highlights the inner workings of Hollywood in a comedic manner and does so with a great soundtrack propelling it to a worldwide audience. The show featured tracks, notably hip-hop tracks, from the likes of Jay Z, T.I., Kanye West, Eminem, N.W.A. and many more. That tradition of big tracks to go along with the overtop acting is coming to the big screen and the film soundtrack has been unveiled. Among those who will appear on the tracklist include Diplo, Pharrell, Tame Impala and Jane's Addiction. -
Steve Aoki Cancels Shows for Emergency Vocal Chord Surgery
This week has been a roller coaster week for Steve Aoki. He released his new artist album Neon Future II on Tuesday, which features collaborations with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Rivers Cumo, Nervo and Linkin Park, which went into the top 20 iTunes dance charts in over a dozen countries worldwide. Today, the "Boneless" DJ had to announce that he would be canceling the rest of this month's shows because of a longstanding need to get vocal chord surgery that could not be put off any longer. -
'The Martin Garrix Show' Episode 3 Released Featuring Tiësto
To celebrate his 19th birthday (yes he is still only 19), Martin Garrix has unveiled the third episode of his tour documentary series, "The Martin Garrix Show.' It follows him on his travels throughout the United States starting in Las Vegas shooting the commercial for 7UP featuring his track with Tiësto titled "The Only Way Is Up." They then head to Miami for the official rollout of the 7UP campaign where they get their own branded cans and Garrix performs all across town. -
Live Nation & Uber Partner For EDC, Sasquatch!, Hard Summer and Voodoo
Getting to and from concerts can be a nightmare. Nobody wants to drive and if they are far away, the time spent in traffic can be almost as long as the music itself. Uber has been teamed up with some local promoters and venues around the country to provide free or discounted rides to attendees to and from shows, but has not partnered with any major promoter on a wide scale. Today that changes as the most valuable private company in the world, Uber and Live Nation have partnered to provide rides for customers at 64 festivals and venues across the United States.
